Becoming Trauma Informed:

Learning Through Living Experiences

Here you will be able to listen to a recording that Lifestyle Health Foundation co-Director, Neil Bindemann PhD gave in 2021 at the European Congress of Integrative Medicine. In this talk Neil explains how when someone experiences trauma, it triggers considerable emotional turmoil, altering an individual’s perception of themselves, their world, and the people around them. It can disrupt the individual’s biological, cognitive, and emotional functioning plus their identity, relationships, and social interactions.

Neil presents data from a large survey of people with lived experiences with over 600 people in total) and Neil highlights, using the data, the significance of the words we speak and how they can impact emotions.

Here, listed on either side of this page are just a selection of books, along with Neil’s living experience, with a brain tumour, that he draws on to make a number of intriguing observation in the talk.

Details of some of these books and other useful resources can be found in our library.
